Community Celebration for "...Lighting Your Way..." at Union Station

Join us in Celebration!

Site Projects at Union Station

1-4PM: In conjunction with the International Festival of Arts and Ideas' pop-up festival in the Hill neighborhood, we will celebrate the ideas and aspirations of the artwork for the people in the surrounding neighborhoods and for people coming through the train station.

4-6PM: A reception with light fare, short speeches and toasts for neighborhood residents and City officials.  Public Art Fellows 2017 will be announced.

6 PM: A procession from the train station to the underpass.

A premiere screening of the film shorts by different local artists featuring Sheila de Bretteville and the long history of the site, accompanied by interviews with people who lived in the area in the 1930's, 40's. and 50's, will be shown during both the 1-4PM and the 4-6PM celebrations.

Rick Lowe In Conversation: Art, Community + Social Practice

Site Projects has invited Houston-based artist and 2014 MacArthur Fellow, Rick Lowe* to New Haven this May (12+13) for a lecture and public program series. Lowe is the founder of Project Row Houses, a community-based arts and culture non-profit organization in Houston’s northern Third Ward. In the twenty-three years since its inception, Project Row Houses has transformed six of blocks of a formerly blighted neighborhood into a vibrant beacon for the community through a holistic and multifaceted approach to community-building and creative empowerment that has been termed social-practice art.
